STIR’s solution is to support government officials to ignite and sustain teacher intrinsic motivation (TIM) across entire education systems. We do this in order to improve classroom practice and student learning, and in the process, boost financial efficiency for education systems. To do this, STIR builds teacher networks, on-going, local communities of practice through which teachers tangibly improve their classroom practice and children’s learning. Each network consists of approximately 30 teachers that convene monthly and go through a two-year structured development process. Through these networks teachers develop (i) professional mindsets and behaviours associated with increased motivation (ii) increasing mastery of classroom improvement principles and techniques (iii) practical experience of leading classroom improvement that allows teachers to create and see positive change in their classrooms. STIR provides on-going certification opportunities through the University of Roehampton for teachers and Education Leaders along the journey.
