PROJECT DETAILS

Be an Entrepreneur is a 360 degree 21st Century Entrepreneurial skills at school and enterprise in community approach that we, Going to School, have been running in Government Secondary Schools in Bihar, India, since 2012. Our goal has been, and remains, to teach kids 21st Century Entrepreneurial skills at school, with a fierce commitment to girls, to keep both girls and boys in school. To date we have only been given access by the Government to Grade 9 which means we can not know how we are doing when it comes to keeping girls in school through Grade 10 to avoid a child marriage. We have not yet been able to measure if our skills at school link to work, jobs, new enterprise opportunities because we have not been in Grade 12. Good news. With the new commitment from the Government of Bihar we now have access to all four grades, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 and with one more year, we get to work with young people as they transition from school to work. With the new commitment from the Government of Bihar we now have access to all four grades, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 and with one more year, we get to work with young people as they transition from school to work. For the first time in the past five years of our program in Bihar we will be able to focus on getting girls through Grade 10, retention, skills, health outcomes, saying no to a child marriage, and after she is through Grade 10, with more challenging skills at school, link school to work: getting a job, starting an enterprise or going to university. Throughout the four years, our most important goal will be to keep adolescent girls in school, out of a child marriage and enable her to create a new economic goals for good, learn skills at school so she can succeed, get a job, start an enterprise, go to university, whatever she chooses. We are integrating health education, awareness, choices, self-defense in the skills at school program design and we will design new content for Grade 10 and 12 to enable girls (and boys) to pass the difficult board exams. We call this program design in Bihar the Class of 2023.

    • Key Success Indicators Keep girls in school until Grade 10, short term goal, and Grade 12, long term goal- With access to all four years and to the same school building where Grade 9 - 12 takes place, we will be able to track girls attendance daily and whether or not we have been able to have an impact on retention Delay marriage until after 18- With intense and direct communication to girls and their families about the importance of girls staying in school, we will track every girl in the program, her family is willingness to keep her in school and the risk of her dropping out and take action. Enable vast skills acquisition and application by all children in the program, increase in health awareness, choices, outcomes- We would love an external agency to run a RCT across five years tracking from school to work transition, skills outcomes, delayed marriage, health outcomes. Improve teachers ability to teach 21st Century Entrepreneurial Skills- Teachers skills, this would also be part of the evaluation with variations on the theme of teacher training and levels of monitoring/support. Link education to work, delivering skills at school that enable young people to get a job, start an enterprise or go to university after Grade 12 (and staying with them in that transition year to ensure it happens) Climate Change Fund.- Linking education to work or further education, we will directly work with all young people in Grade 12 to action their plans and will be able to report on the success or lack of success of their ventures. Sustainability plant a state-wide evolving skills program within the government system- Sustainability, as the Government in this new plan has committed funding TA/DA for teachers and the printing of books and games, we are already on the sustainable inclusion in the curricula route, we just want to design and leave the Government with a program design that takes millions of children from school to work, education or further education Nationwide, through The Childrens Scrappy News Service, start a scrappy kids revolution to solve the biggest problems India faces, climate change, water, pollution, unemployment, launch a national kids dialogue for parents, educators and governments to listen to, and in turn, transform secondary education to be relevant to taking on climate change, making India inclusive, getting a job or creating a job in India and going green, organic in everything we do.- The Childrens Scrappy News Service, the TRP ratings will show if it is a popular show, who is watching where, the digital channel will show the same, as well as which kids are downloading content to learn skills and where action is being taken on the ground, this is a way to scale skills at school for girls across India, through mobile, TV and at school. Show less
