Green School & School Culture (Training cum Implementation) - Manipur

PROJECT DETAILS

• For the last many decades, the conditions of Government Schools in Manipur have been relatively poor as compared to Private schools. Despite recruitments of qualified and trained teachers and also provision of free and compulsory education, the Govt. schools couldn’t rise from its degraded status. One of the main reasons behind this is the condition of the school buildings which are in dilapidated conditions as most of the schools were constructed in the early 20th century. All the futile attempts of the govt to attract the students in govt schools failed as no provision for school beautification or major repairing were provided. Due to lack of motivational factors, the qualified teachers also couldn’t perform at their level best and hence the uplift of their enthusiasm and zeal to perform was very much needed to make the Govt schools successful. • Taking the above mentioned issues in mind, SSA Manipur under the supervision and direction of the State Project Director remodelled the Training module on “Behavioural Change” so as to achieve concrete and visible outcomes of the training towards improving Govt. schools in Manipur. • Two topics viz, “Green School and School Culture” were chosen which also involves bringing attitudinal change of the teachers. It was an activity based training where apart from the classroom transaction some hands-on activities were also conducted by the master trainers and the trainees. Apart from that, the office also aimed for sustainability of the activities that were conducted. • Forty four schools and forty four teachers from different Government schools of Imphal West were selected as training centres and master trainers, respectively. • One of the important features of this training was that it was conducted after completion of the classes (from 1pm to 4pm) in the schools. In this way the school working hours were not affected.

- This training enables teachers from different Schools and Stakeholders to share knowledge and understanding of their school with each other. - It creates a sense of appreciation for their role and change of their behaviour toward a better school culture and society. - It also helps them to realize the diversity and richness of Mother Nature in bringing a green school with sustainable development. - This training provide teachers teachings of various disciplines, an opportunity to interact with one another, so that their approach to education may be inter-related and the teacher-learning process is more effective and overall provides students with an enriching educational experience. - It concentrates on studying the role of teachers and localities in conservation of our natural and cultural state of their school and involvement of them along with the students in such activities that may help them to development their own school and later serve the country in near future.
