Problem statement : Inclusive Schools approach has emerged as a holistic solution for bringing together a comprehensive range of quality interventions in education globally. India promises a participatory approach comprehensively as desired under RTE Act to plan for quality education and aims to revamp schools and systems through child friendly principles in policy, planning, teacher support system, teaching learning material and pedagogical processes. Within the inter-sectoral and holistic framework, this approach emphasizes issues related to health, safety, nutrition status, and psychological well-being of the child as well as learning among children, including the important role of teacher training, pedagogical practices and community participation. An inclusive school is proactively child–seeking and child-centered. It attracts and retains children from different backgrounds, respect diversity specially CwSN and ensure equity and participation. This requires not just getting all children into schools but making sure that all schools work in the best interest of children for the inclusion of Children with special Needs.
Proposed solution : SSA Gujarat has selected 3 inclusive School in each block. Total -815 schools have been selected from 33 district and 4corporations on the basis of CwSN enrollment, infrastructure, teachers availability and ease of access to health and therapy support. Handholding and need based support is being provided continuously to children and teachers through special field expert, block level Resource Persons and Resource teachers. It is proposed to facilitate the schools for inclusive learning environment with support as under: • Redesigning the school and system in a more sensible manner • Providing safe and protective schools that are adequately staffed with trained and responsive teachers, equipped with adequate resources, and offered appropriate conditions for learning • Recognizing diverse needs of CwSN and accommodating the same • Promoting childrens ability to think and reason, build self-respect and respect for others and reach their full potential as individuals, members of their communities and citizens of the world.
