Key success indicators : Expected Achievement and follow up:- ? This will provide digital empowerment to RMSA students not only for current study but also for future employability. ? Visually impaired students would read and write like normal student. ? Students can do their assignments, make notes and participate in examination etc. ? Interactive multimedia interface will boost student confidence and skills. ? Multimedia interface will improve access for visually impaired students at secondary level. ? The project would be initially launched for four year and depending on the success, it will be extended further. The first batch of VI student will also be passed class 12 after four year and the overall impact of the project will be visible on them.
Problem statement : Most of the information at school level reach us in the form of printed materials and Visually Impaired (VI) Child cannot read normal printed books. Similarly, persons with visual imparity need to engage a writer to be able to write in a format so that rest of the world could read it. This dependence on someone else for reading and writing is one of the biggest hurdle in the path of Education and Employment of such children.
Proposed solution : Department of Education of Chhattisgarh proposes to provide low cost laptops loaded with Samarth Tools including NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access) screen reading software and high quality Nuance Voices to 200 special students at the high school level. The laptop would be useful for them till they pass class 12. Education Dept. would be able to retain them after they pass class 10 and the dropout at this level would be greatly reduced. Following activities will be undertaken in this program: • Establish a committee of experts to advise and monitor implementation of this program in Chhattisgarh. • Purchase of low cost laptops loaded with Samarth Tools including NVDA screen reading software and Nuance Voices for students of RMSA identified for training • Prepare a computer training module along with tutorials in Hindi Language for RMSA Students with visual imparity. • Identify organizations to provide three month training to students with visual impairment. • Provide computers along with training to 200 Students in every year of implementation. • Provide laptop and training to visual impaired students who enter class 9 under the RMSA program every year for a period of 4 years. • Provide orientation to special educators providing support services to students with visual imparity under RMSA/SSA program so that proper utilization of laptops is ensured
