Key success indicators : Close to 15 percentage-points improvement was recorded for in these pilot schools when the performance in these assessments was compared against their half-yearly marks. Pertinently, children have showed more improvement in Social Studies and Science. Lastly, Attendance has improved by 4 percentage points.
Problem statement : Andhra Pradesh fares significantly below the National average i.e at 20th Rank in Language and 26th Rank in Mathematics in class VIII as per National Achievement Survey. Over 2,000 Digital Classrooms are set up to improve on learning outcomes at secondary level and state is now looking to adapt current infrastructure with newer hardware, implement brand new smart classrooms and to include personalized adaptive learning via the use of tablets/laptops in both cases respectively. This is to be introduced as the “Smart class room project”.
Proposed solution : A smart classroom pilot was conducted for 3 months with tablets at 3 schools. The averages of the entire class for both half-yearly and tablet-based assessments have been recorded. The overall quantitative impact has been substantial. After assessments were conducted in these schools (one paper-based and the other tablet-based). Close to 15 percentage-points improvement was recorded for in these schools when the performance in these assessments was compared against their half-yearly marks. Pertinently, children have showed more improvement in Social Studies and Science. Lastly, Attendance has improved by 4 percentage points. Thus the existing Digital Classrooms(two computer and projector model) set up across the state are proposed to be converted to smart classrooms by providing tablets with adaptive learning platform to make it a student centric model from teacher centric model.
